Climate disruption, ecological degradation, overpopulation and conspicuous consumption have created a perfect storm that if left unchecked will result in societal and ecological breakdown. As systems break down, opportunities for creative long-term change begin to emerge. These breakthroughs can lead us toward new ways of governing and new models of economy. The future of humanity and earth\u2019s biophysical systems depend on finding and implementing breakthroughs that are socially just and ecologically regenerative. These dialogues are intended to open up conversations for change in Atlantic Canada.<\/em><\/p>\r\n

This dialogue may help Atlantic Canadians navigate a predicament unlike any that humanity has ever faced.<\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

David Orr, Scott Leckie<\/strong> and Rankin MacSween<\/strong> will join Centre for Local Prosperity Host Gr\u00e9gory H\u00e9ming<\/strong> for a 1 hour discussion followed by a 30 minute Q&A session with the public. All Webinars are from 7:00 to 8:30pm Atlantic time.<\/p>\r\n

David Orr <\/strong>is the Paul Sears Distinguished Professor<\/a> of Environmental Studies<\/a> and Politics<\/a> and senior advisor to the President at Oberlin College<\/a>. He is the author of eight books, including Dangerous Years: Climate Change, the Long Emergency, and the Way Forward\u00a0 and Down to the Wire: Confronting Climate Collapse. He has been awarded eight honorary degrees and a dozen other awards including a Lyndhurst Prize, a National Achievement Award from the National Wildlife Federation, and a Visionary Leadership Award from Second Nature.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Scott Leakie<\/strong> is the founder and director of Displacement Solutions<\/a>, a non-profit initiative designed to assist refugees and displaced persons to return and recover their original homes. An international human rights lawyer and global housing advocate, he is recognised internationally as an expert in the field of economic and social rights. He is currently a Visiting Professor at the Australian National University, Canberra, Australia.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Rankin MacSween<\/strong> has worked with New Dawn Enterprises since 1977. He has recently retired as President and CEO of the New Dawn family of companies. Born and raised in Boisdale, Cape Breton Island, Rankin holds degrees from StFX, University of Ottawa, the Merrill Palmer Institute, a PhD from the University of Toronto and holds an honorary doctorate from Cape Breton University.\u00a0 He is a founding member of the Canadian Community Economic Development Network and in 2008 was inducted into the Cape Breton Business Hall of Fame.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Gr\u00e9gory H\u00e9ming<\/strong> is a philosophical ecologist, writer, climate activist and former elected official.
